December 2011; Nick Jaffe of Seversaurus

Hello Nick Jaffe, thanks for taking the time to do this interview with Web Host Ranking, and to further explain to our readers about the services your company Serversaurus offers. Can you please tell our readers a little bit about yourself and what your role is at Serversaurus?

Sure! I’m one of the owners of Serversaurus, along with my business partner Martin Gleeson. We bootstrapped Serversaurus in 2005, offering primarily budget shared web hosting, but eventually moving into VPS and cloud hosting last year through our high performance sister platform, Dynomesh. We focus primarily on the Australian web hosting market, providing 100% of our infrastructure and support out of Melbourne, Australia. My role as a co-founder, is of course to do a bit of everything! We’ve been working on our new co-working and office space since April, so we’ve literally been swinging hammers between support requests and day to day management tasks!

First off, Web Host Ranking wants to commend you for the actions you take when it comes to the environment. Can you explain to our readers a little bit about this?

Thanks! Both Martin and I have a strong environmental beliefs, as avid commuter cyclists and lovers of our natural environment. As such, we’ve worked hard to try and offset and manage the pollution that is created by running our servers and infrastructure. Part of this has included calculating our total carbon footprint (by estimating how much electricity our servers use), and offsetting that carbon output through tree planting (referred to as a ‘carbon sink’). Additionally, Serversaurus is part of the ‘1% for the Planet’ movement, which was started by Yvon Chouinard. This movement encourages companies to donate 1% of their profits to environmental charities. We’ve been carbon offsetting since 2005, and proudly part of 1% for the Planet since 2010.

Serversaurus offers a few different types of web hosting but it has been our experience that the most common type of web hosting used by our readers is shared web hosting. You offer a few plans in your economy hosting category. Can you give us a little bit more information on your economy hosting plans?

You’re right – Most people are interested in shared hosting plans, to manage WordPress blogs, small company brochure-ware, and custom private email addresses. Our econonmy hosting plans are generous, fast, and built on top of our Dynomesh cloud platform. So, in addition to being great shared packages, they’re one step ahead above our competitors in terms of redundancy and resilience, as they’re actually running within our high performance cloud. Our shared hosting plans offer cPanel based packages with generous allocations in terms of space, bandwidth, email addresses, and addon domains.

A common question that we like to ask our hosts is about their customer support. Web Host Ranking is very big on customer support as we have experienced the wide range of it. Can you explain to us about your customer support program and the costs associated with it our customers might encounter?

Our primary focus is customer service. Web hosting is a highly competitive market with very low margins, and as such we work hard to differentiate ourselves not only with technology, but also through very personalised support. All of our plans come with free phone and ticket support. For training or extended support, we also offer personalised packages and low hourly fees. These are tailored to customer needs and requirements.

One thing our readers might be wondering is why I should use Australian web hosting if I live in the United States. Do you have to live in Australian to use Serversaurus and if they don’t live in Australian will they lose any features?

Our focus is primarily on the Australian web hosting market, as we have unique customer requirements in terms of timezones and latency. For US customers requiring southern hemisphere hosting, either to target Australian markets or for other reasons, we’re definitely a good pick though! However, the US also has a bunch of great companies for web hosting, which is another reason why we’re mostly concerned with the Australian market. We’d never say no to helping our US friends!

We read on the official Serversaurus blog that you guys offer help in moving a website from another host to Serversaurus. How long does this process take and what does it exactly consist of?

If our customer would like to move over to us, we’ll do whatever we can to help the transition. Generally it’s very easy and quick for customers who are on another host that is powered by cPanel, as the account move functionality within WHM is very good. We’re also able to assist in more complex migrations, depending on what the requirements are.

Nick, thanks for taking some time out of your day to speak to Web Host Ranking. Before we let you get back to having fun in your office, we must ask you one last thing. Are there any special Serversaurus coupons that our readers should look for or able to use when signing up with Serversaurus to save some money?

There is now! Please use coupon code WEBHOSTRANKING for 20% off :)
