Sevag, Thanks for the opportunity to talk today to Web Host Ranking. Please introduce yourself to our readers and what is your role at InMotion Hosting?
Hi Jeff. Wanted to start by thanking you for this opportunity to tell you more about hosting and my role with the company. My name is Sev and I’m the partner marketing specialist at InMotion Hosting. I identify and develop partnerships with web presences that have the same target demographics as InMotion does.
For our new readers that are hearing about InMotion Hosting for the first time, can you give them a little history on the company?
InMotion Hosting was founded in 2001, and has since become an industry leader in the professional web hosting industry. As a Certified CNET Hosting Provider for over 10 years, InMotion Hosting has received numerous awards for Shared, VPS, and Dedicated hosting solutions. Quality, technology and customer service has made InMotion Hosting one of the best hosting companies around.
How many customers does InMotion Hosting currently have?
We currently host approximately 250,000 domains which comes out to roughly 175,000 unique customers.
Shared web hosting is the most popular service that our readers are looking for but we do have readers looking for VPS or dedicated hosting. Can you briefly talk about the types of web hosting that InMotion Hosting offers?
This is a great question – we see a lot of confusion here.
Shared Hosting is an entry-level web hosting product that is both the most popular and the least expensive. It is often attractive for small and medium businesses, blogs, portfolios and websites with moderate amounts of traffic. With Shared Hosting, multiple websites share a large server and its resources, including storage, bandwidth and disk space. With Shared Hosting, the web host is responsible for all of the server maintenance and upkeep. All of InMotion Hosting’s Business Hosting plans are Shared Hosting plans.
Virtual Private Server Hosting (VPS Hosting) is essentially a dedicated server within a shared hosting environment. With VPS Hosting, each customer can run their own operating system within a section of a dedicated server. Even though multiple customers are on the same physical machine, VPS Hosting allows each customer’s account/website to have all the capabilities of being on their own. This type of hosting offers advanced performance and flexibility with the ability to customize, all at an affordable price.
Dedicated Hosting is a hosting type in which our customers lease an entire server from our fleet and use them solely for themselves. They do no share these servers with other customers, and have flexibility in the selection of which software and hardware products to use. Further, they have a many options when it comes to server resources such as processor capacity and memory.
If it’s still a bit unclear, check out our quick video which explains the differences using a fun & easy analogy:
Web hosting is a very competitive business, what services does InMotion Hosting offer that sets them apart from the others?
You’re absolutely correct. Web Hosting has become a hyper-competitive industry. And it has become increasingly accessible to the novice web users who doesn’t always fully understand the technical differentiators we offer. Because of this and other factors, our point of differentiation has increasingly become our relentless focus on customer support and satisfaction.
Something that we at WebHostRanking feel very strongly about is customer support. We have a lot of readers that are new to web hosting and not experts at it. They rely a lot on customer support. What type of customer support does InMotion Hosting offer and is there a fee for it?
I’m glad you asked this question. We offer 24/7/365 customer support for free. You can reach a customer service rep from anywhere in the world. Anytime. In any form – whether you prefer email, chat, or a good ol’ fashioned phone call. We’re here for you.
We have been in the industry for over a decade and just in that time we have seen lots of changes to the web hosting industry. How does InMotion Hosting keep up with the changes and where do you see InMotion Hosting in the next year?
I think one of the major developments in our competitive landscape has been industry consolidation. It’s unfortunate, because we have seen many great companies lose their authenticity and true competitive advantage when being absorbed by a conglomerate. We strive to remain independent, open source and customer-driven. I do believe competition is good as it produces the best service to the customer, but it also requires companies to continually improve on their tech. We have invested heavily in our infrastructure and will continue to do so. Be sure to keep an eye out on some major developments coming from InMotion Hosting in 2016.
There has been a lot of talk in the last two years or so about search engine ranking, mainly Google. A lot of the recent talk has been dealing with SSL certificates. Does InMotion Hosting offer these and what is your opinion on this topic?
Search engine rankings have become a website’s lifeblood. Google and comparable search engines literally make and/or break businesses. It’s the world we live in, and we all have to be present on these platforms if we want to remain relevant. We have many resources available on the topic such as on our blog. We suggest your readers to use our blog as a resource – all entries have been written by experts in their respective fields.
SSL certificates are of paramount importance. E-commerce can essentially not take place without these certificates. We offer SSL to our clients and have resources on this topic on our support page as well. Again, we encourage your readers to take a look at our support and blog sections – even though some of your clients may not be ready to purchase hosting services, we are happy to serve as a resource.
Again, Sevag thanks for talking to us today. I know that our readers have learned a great deal about InMotion Hosting and are going to be using our InMotion Hosting coupon to save money!
